The Charlotte Observer is launching a newsletter July 7 focusing on local, state and regional political news — CLT Politics.
Sent to subscribers on Thursday mornings, CLT Politics will provide free, exclusive insight and analysis from the Observer’s reporters, complementing daily stories. When signing up at the link below, be sure to click “+select” next to the CLT Politics logo, enter your email address and click “save selections.”
The Observer’s politics reporter, Will Wright, will be the newsletter’s lead writer. Wright joined the Observer in June 2021 after working as a reporting fellow at The New York Times and as the eastern Kentucky reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader. When he’s not reporting political news, Wright enjoys hiking, fishing and tending his garden.
Genna Contino, the Observer’s local government reporter, will also contribute to the newsletter. She joined the Observer in May after reporting on the Greenville County Council, affordable housing and gentrification for the Greenville News in South Carolina. When she’s not reporting, Contino enjoys reading and traveling.
Leading up to the newsletter launch, Wright and Contino have written editions of CLT Politics posted directly to charlotteobserver.com about the reason behind City Councilman Braxton Winston’s lone “no” vote against renovations and a practice facility for the Hornets, a potential replacement for the late commissioner Ella Scarborough, Charlotte legislators’ plans for the 2022 session, why the Charlotte GOP might have a fighting chance in the 2022 municipal election and how Councilman Larken Egleston was the top fundraiser during the May primary despite falling short of a spot in the general election.
