As the nation prepares to enter into the first midterm elections of Joe Biden’s presidency, Americans are taking to the internet to find out what issues are on the ballot this November.
National interest has been focused on the abortion debate, inflation and the coronavirus. But what are people in North Carolina most interested in?
According to data from Google Trends, several terms have become more popular in search history over the last few weeks. Data indicates that the top five issues most searched by users are wages, Social Security, health care, abortion and the economy.
In North Carolina, Social Security is the most-searched political term on Google as of Thursday. Wages and health care follow behind as the second- and third-most searched political terms on the platform, respectively.
More specifically, in Mecklenburg County, health care is top of mind for voters, Google Trends Data indicates. Wages and Social Security follow closely behind, while abortion and the economy take a backseat.
However, all of these issues, have continuously shifted in popularity over the past week, with some of them replacing health care as the most searched issue.
And two years ago, following the start of the global pandemic, unemployment was searched more often than any other political issue. Since then, the term has experienced a 96% decrease, according to Google Trends data.
Nonetheless, each of these matters take up a different level of importance for each voter. What issues are most important to you this election season? Vote in our survey below.
