How to contact your representatives, from Charlotte City Council to US Congress

A new year is underway, and that means a new round of legislative sessions kicking into gear in North Carolina and beyond.

From the Charlotte City Council to the state legislature in Raleigh and the halls of Congress in Washington, D.C., what your representatives do — and don’t do — has an impact on your future. Many Charlotte representatives — including a U.S. senator, congressman and multiple members of the state legislature — are new to their jobs in 2023.

In addition to following the news, attending in-person events and interacting on social media, you also have avenues for reaching out directly to elected officials and their staff.

Here’s what to know about contacting your representatives at different levels of government:

How to contact your Charlotte City Council representative

You can find out who your city councilmember is and get their phone number and email address at charlottenc.gov/CityCouncil/Pages/default.aspx.

Residents can provide feedback to city government at charlottenc.gov/pages/contactus.aspx, and you can request to speak at a council meeting at charlottenc.gov/cityclerk/pages/speak.aspx.

You can find the contact information for other local officials, such as school board members, and municipal offices in Mecklenburg County at mecknc.gov/BOE/elections/Pages/ElectedOfficials.aspx.

How to contact your NC state representative or senator

You can find contact information for all North Carolina state representatives and senators who will represent Mecklenburg County during the 2023-24 legislative session at ncleg.gov/Members/CountyRepresentation/Mecklenburg.

From there, click on your representative’s name, and you’ll find phone numbers and email addresses for them.

How to contact your congressman or US senator

Rep. Alma Adams — who represents most of eastern and northern Mecklenburg County, plus Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg — can be sent a message at adamsforms.house.gov/contact. You’ll also find information there on how to request a meeting.

The phone number for her Charlotte office is 704-344-9950.

Rep. Jeff Jackson, who will represent south and west Charlotte as well as the eastern part of Gaston County in the new Congress, can be reached via email at jeffjackson.house.gov/contact. You can also make a meeting request there.

Jackson’s congressional website does not yet list a number for his district office, but his Washington, D.C., office can be reached at 202-225-5634.

You can submit a question or get information on how to schedule a meeting with Sen. Thom Tillis’s office at tillis.senate.gov/services. And you can call the senator’s Charlotte office at 704-509-9087.

You can submit a question or make a request to Sen. Ted Budd’s office at budd.senate.gov. His Senate website does not yet list a district office, but his Washington, D.C., office can be reached at 202-224-3154.

Information for the rest of North Carolina’s congressional delegation can be found at congress.gov/members.
