Hillary Clinton attends Charlotte fundraiser
Democrat Hillary Clinton stopped at the Charlotte home of a former college classmate Tuesday night, and walked away with more than $400,000 for her presidential campaign.
Around 150 people attended the fundraiser at the home of Erskine and Crandall Bowles.
Crandall Bowles was Clinton’s classmate at Wellesley College. Her husband was White House chief of staff for President Bill Clinton.
Among the guests was Charlotte businessman Marc Friedland.
“It was very personal,” he said. “It was just like you were talking with your neighbor. I’ve been at these house parties for local candidates and I didn’t feel this kind of personal contact.”
Clinton is the latest presidential candidate to visit Charlotte to raise money. Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio attended a fundraiser this month at the Charlotte home of NASCAR team owner Felix Sabates.
Clinton’s visit came the same day a new Public Policy Polling survey showed Clinton leading the Democratic field in North Carolina, with 37 percent to Vice President Joe Biden’s 30 percent and 17 percent for Bernie Sanders. Biden is not even in the race.
The poll was highlighted this week in an email from Republican National Committee spokeswoman Ali Pardo. “Everywhere Hillary Clinton goes, her campaign is overshadowed by unanswered questions regarding her secret email server,” Pardo said.
