Charlotte comedian Joanne Spataro launches web series lampooning Gov. Pat McCrory

It’s only January, but an election-year parody of Gov. Pat McCrory has already emerged.

Joanne Spataro, who’s relatively well-known in Charlotte as a humorist and writer, is launching a web video series called “It’s Pat!” that lampoons the governor.

Spataro has done a number of videos with Charlotte politicians. One video features her skateboarding with mayoral candidate Edwin Peacock, while another is a 2014 interview with future mayor Jennifer Roberts that takes place in a bed.

Spataro said she decided to do a web series on McCrory after her comedy sketch on his environmental policies got a positive response from audiences.

For the videos, Spataro puts on a wig and glasses. The first episode spoofs McCrory’s recent video cheering on the Carolina Panthers and features a few jokes about coal ash and the governor’s close relationship with his dog Moe.

“I think satire sometimes tells the truth more than anything else,” Spataro told The News & Observer Wednesday.

No word yet on whether McCrory’s gubernatorial opponent, Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper, will be booking Spataro for campaign events.
