Rep. Tricia Cotham asks governor to cancel I-77 toll lane contract

Saying residents of north Mecklenburg County are getting a “raw deal” from the state, Rep. Tricia Cotham on Wednesday asked Gov. Pat McCrory to cancel the contract for Interstate 77 toll lanes.

“The vigor and volume of their protests reflects their profound loss of faith in government as a result of this contract,” she wrote.

Cotham, a Matthews Democrat, added that not only have residents expressed opposition but businesses such as NASCAR leaders have threatened to move elsewhere.

McCrory has refused to cancel the contract.

Cotham also has introduced a bill to do that, but her bill is not expected to go far in the Republican-controlled General Assembly. She’s running for Congress in the new 12th District, which includes most of Mecklenburg County.
