Gov. Pat McCrory on Friday formally appointed Republican Scott Stone to the House seat that was vacated following last month’s resignation of Republican Rep. Jacqueline Schaffer.

Stone, a former Charlotte mayoral candidate, won the March 15 Republican primary in House District 105. He was chosen to fill the vacancy by party officials from the district.

Schaffer resigned to devote more time on business responsibilities.

Stone will be sworn in Monday night.

“It’s been a long time getting to this point,” he said. “There’s a lot of important business to do in these next few weeks.”

Stone, president of American Engineering, faces Democrat Connie Green-Johnson in November.
