Outside money floods 13th Congressional District race

Two Republicans running for Congress in the crowded 13th District primary have gotten big help from outside groups.

The conservative Club for Growth Action has poured $493,000 into the campaign of Tedd Budd, a Davie County businessman.

And the National Association of Realtors is spending nearly $326,000 on behalf of state Rep. Julia Howard of Davie County. Each group has produced and run TV ads for the candidates.

The two are among 17 Republicans in the June 7 primary. Five Democrats are also running in the newly drawn district that stretches from Mooresville to Greensboro.

Howard recently criticized the infusion of outside money for Budd. “It’s unfair to every other candidate that’s in the race,” she said.
