Incumbent chief deputy wins 2022 commissioners race in Iredell County primary election

With two of its members opting not to seek reelection, new faces on the Iredell County Board of Commissioners will include a newcomer and a county law enforcement veteran.

Newcomer Brad Stroud Sr. led the pack, earning 14% of the vote.

Incumbent Gene Houpe also received 14% of the vote, and Bert Connolly, who serves as chief deputy at the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, received 13% of the vote.

Stroud, Houpe and Connolly will be on the ballot along with Democrats Frank Johnson and Michelle Goree in November.
