Mecklenburg finishes 2024 recount. How vote tallies changed in NC legislature, court races

State Rep. Tricia Cotham and Woodson Bradley are still headed to Raleigh after recounts confirmed their wins in a pair of Mecklenburg County legislative races.

Cotham, in her first reelection bid since switching parties from Democrat to Republican, defeated Democrat Nicole Sidman in state House District 105 by 216 votes in the initial count. After Mecklenburg election officials completed their recount Wednesday, Cotham’s vote total fell by four and Sidman’s by one, for a final margin of 213 votes.

Bradley, a Democrat, defeated Republican Stacie McGinn for the open seat in state Senate District 42 by an initial margin of 204 votes. After the recount, Bradley’s vote total fell by nine and McGinn’s by 14, for a final margin of 209 votes.

Both districts are in southeast Mecklenburg County.

Mecklenburg was also part of a statewide recount in the North Carolina Supreme Court race between incumbent Democratic Justice Allison Riggs and Republican Jefferson Griffin.

Riggs’ vote total fell by 31 in Mecklenburg after the recount, and Griffin’s by 29. Other counties are still recounting votes in the Supreme Court race, according to the State Board of Election’s tracker.
