Mecklenburg finalizes 2026 primary results. How much did vote totals change?
Mecklenburg County election officials confirmed the defeats of multiple incumbents Friday as they certified the results of the March 3 primaries.
The Board of Elections gathered Friday for its canvass, a final review and certification of the county’s election results. The eventful election cycle included the ousting of two sitting legislators who sparked backlash by bucking their political party on veto votes and a veteran county commissioner.
Additional ballots were added and subtracted Friday, but not enough to impact the outcomes of any races.
The board removed three ballots from the county’s total: two cast by residents who voted early but then died before Election Day and one from a person convicted of a felony whose voting rights hadn’t been restored. The county board also approved the addition of three more ballots cast by voters who addressed issues with their ballots by the deadline to do so.
The board approved a total of 282 provisional ballots for the primary elections.
That leaves Mecklenburg with a final total of 127,298 votes out of 819,364 registered voters, a turnout rate of about 15.5%
No races in Mecklenburg County were close enough to trigger a recount this election cycle.
Next up is the general election, scheduled for Nov. 3. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9.
