Even if they’re not old enough to vote, students have a stake in who runs Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. They’ll get a chance to question the school board candidates Oct. 6 in a youth forum sponsored by GenerationNation, a nonprofit that promotes civic engagement.

Nine people are seeking the three at-large seats on the CMS board. Winners will be chosen in the Nov. 3 general election.

The forum will combine a traditional question-and-answer session with “speed dating” in which candidates hold quick sessions with small groups. A similar forum takes place Oct. 20 for Charlotte mayoral candidates.

Both sessions will be 6-8 p.m. on the second floor of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St. Go to GenerationNation.org to register and to read candidates’ answers to youth questionnaires.
