Black Political Caucus endorses in CMS board, Charlotte city races
Incumbents Ericka Ellis-Stewart and Mary McCray and challenger Levester Flowers got the Black Political Caucus endorsement for Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board.
They’re among nine candidates for the three at-large seats.
The caucus also recommends a yes vote in the countywide referendum on extending Mecklenburg county commissioners’ terms from two to four years.
Jennifer Roberts got the group’s endorsement for mayor of Charlotte. Charlotte City Council endorsements were Vi Lyles, James “Smuggie” Mitchell and John Powell (at large); Al Austin (District 2); LaWana Mayfield (District 3); Gregg Phipps (District 4) and John Autry (District 5). The caucus endorsed Thurman Ross for Cornelius town commissioner.
Early voting continues through Saturday, and Tuesday is Election Day. Get more information about candidates at www.charlotteobserver.com/election.
