Should the City Council limit the number of new parking garages in and near uptown to encourage the use of public transportation?

Yes, however we also need to recognize that our transit system needs an overhaul. We have added rail transit to serve some communities, but we need to rethink our system of mobility options for varying needs across Charlotte.

Describe your views on using public money to help build or improve private sports facilities or stadiums.

Sporting events have contributed to our city’s vitality, creating jobs, generating tourism dollars, providing entertainment for residents and visitors and contributing to Charlotte’s appeal as a move-to city. There is a role for government to play and should align with our aspiration to build great places. We need to be intentional that these investments create opportunities for people who have been historically left out.

Is there an area where you disagree with your party? Why?

At times the party brings national issues into local politics. For the betterment of the city, it’s more important to focus on our own community issues and opportunities. We can best advance priorities through a commitment to work together respectfully, and through continuous dialogue and collaboration.

What separates you from your primary opponents?

As a 29 year resident of northeast Charlotte, I have decades of experience working with government to achieve priorities. I understand the work of the City, I have strong relationships with staff and other elected officials and have a solid track record for getting things done through collaboration and determination.

What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?

Following the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in University City, I convened community organizations and faith organizations to better understand needs and challenges in our own yards. The UCITY Family Zone was born from these efforts and has worked to improve quality of life for residents in Northeast Charlotte. As co-founder and in partnership with UNC Charlotte, we have raised $1.2 million to improve access to food, healthcare, quality education, and neighborhood environments.
