What more can county government do to help CMS close achievement gaps and support students in impoverished families?

Continuous tutoring for students that are behind. Literacy improvement at elementary level. Parental involvement

How do you plan to collaborate with other local and state elected officials?

Through various social and professional groups, I have built a reliable relationship that I would enhance in the professional manner to benefit Mecklenburg County citizens. Being a part of the Charlotte Community Relationship Committee, I am familiar with the city of Charlotte and county commission community programs, resources and key officials.

How do you plan to approach the county’s upcoming revaluation and how will the results inform your stance on the 2024 fiscal year’s tax rate?

The county’s tax assessor already has projected a median increase of 48% for residential properties, as reported. I think it is imperative especially during recession that commissioners not increase taxes and actually consider reducing them.

Name a quality about yourself that makes you a good leader:

I have a vision of the picture as a whole and share it with the others. I am also a leader, yet a team player and a problem solver. My international (Soviet Ukraine), pedagogical, and journalistic background secures my cultural aptitude and sensitivity towards diversity.

What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?

Receiving the highest students reviews from Appalachian State University and earning the “Excellence in Teaching” recognition from Appalachian State. Establishing the Slavic Cultural Festival in Charlotte in collaboration with Opera Carolina, Levin Museum of the New South, and International House. Performing National Anthem at the World Hockey Cup opening (Xcel-Center, St. Paul, Minnesota) and participating in 15 operas and two Andrea Bocelli concerts as a member of Opera Carolina.
