What qualities, skills and experiences do you think would make a good superintendent for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools?

Experienced, proven track record, strong community involvement, accessible and accountable, responsive, empathetic and sincere.

CMS, along with other districts across the country and state, has lost a lot of teachers. What are your ideas to keep teachers in CMS classrooms?

Improved CMS support from both school and district level, better pay, increased professional development, continuous teacher education, improved communication between teachers and school district.

What solutions would you offer to improve student and employee safety on CMS school campuses?

More SROs, addition of Thermal Video Scanning, increased school counselors to provide troubled students with mental health resources, vulnerability studies at each and every CMS school.

How do you define CMS’ achievement gap? How can CMS bridge the achievement gap, raise test scores and get the 50 district schools off of the low-performing list?

Achievement gap is the deficit between those students not performing at a proficient level as compared to those that are. Students learning at one school could be learning in a much different environment that may contribute to the achievement gap. This can be due either to teacher shortages, lack of resources, or an unwillingness to make dramatic changes to both the teaching methodologies and infrastructure. An immediate review of how teachers are teaching needs to be done.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents?

I will be the voice and advocate for parents who only want their children to receive a good education in a safe school. Safety, student outcomes and accountablity and transparency are my three main issues I will be fighting for.
