What do you think the root causes of inflation in 2022 are and what further steps can Congress take?

The short-answer is the COVID-19 pandemic. Entire industries transitioned from in-person to virtual overnight, and supply lines that certain industries previously relied on were no longer there. As a result of that scarcity, prices rose — we saw certain commodities, such as lumber, double or triple in cost over short time spans. That cost increase certainly played a role in inflation. Congress should continue to pass acts that provide relief for all people.

Would you support either a national abortion ban or codifying Roe v. Wade? Why?

I absolutely, unequivocally support codifying and protecting a woman’s right to choose, and I was proud to vote in June for the Women’s Health Protection Act and Rep. Kathy Manning’s Right to Contraception Act. No government should be in the business of telling a woman what to do with her body — I was proud to protest for that right in front of the Supreme Court.

Should the U.S. intervene militarily if Taiwan is invaded by China? Why or why not?

The United States of America has an obligation to protect its allies, and to ensure that democratic governments have the opportunity to flourish around the globe.

What do you see as the biggest threat to American stability?

The single greatest threat to our democracy are those in our country who don’t respect our form of government and our electoral process. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or if you’re a Republican — we all need to respect the will of voters and safeguard our free elections.

Tell us your biggest, boldest idea for a bill you’d introduce in Congress if elected/reelected.

During my time in Congress, I’ve focused on what I call my ‘Four H’s’: hunger, health, higher education, and health care. I’ve introduced and have successfully advanced legislation in each of those four H’s, and if reelected, I would continue to do so.
