Grew up in Shenandoah Valley and love forests (Dad and Girl Scouts, camp counselor; backpack advisor 2000s); Chair, City Council’s Gov’t Affairs and elected 10 yrs. to NCASWCD’s Legislative Committee, V Ch. 2018, ‘21, ‘22; know our elected officials; co-founded CLT City Council’s Environment Committee; chair NC League of Municipalities’ Energy, Environment and Nat. Resources; served on National League of CIties’ EENR and as its National Board co-rep., ie policy; NACD Urban & Committee RPG; CM Storm Water Adv.; CM Climate Leaders
How would you work to protect Mecklenburg County’s soil and water for future generations?
Committed to farmland preservation, tree canopy (working with homeowners to preserve wooded sites), recognizing conservation efforts (Urban Soil Health Champion, school competitions), asking neighborhoods to use CLT Neighborhood Grants to match our project money, talking with new and former contacts regarding what is needed, serving on NC ASWCD & as V. Chair of Legislative Comm. to work for funding for projects here and with National ACD working on the Farm Bill and NRCS to assure funding, project assistance
What’s the biggest threat to clean water and the environment in Mecklenburg County?
Loss of trees, of uncovered green space, of awareness of conservation needs.
