Development-related issues frequently come before the City Council. If elected, what would your approach be to those decisions?

Affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges facing our city as one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. We need to increase the housing supply to address the affordable housing crisis while ensuring the quality of life does not diminish for our residents. As we require developers to address various community benefits in their development, we must be mindful of not jeopardizing the American dream of home ownership.

What’s the minimum and the maximum commitment Charlotte should give to the Carolina Panthers for stadium renovations?

It would be a disservice to our taxpayers to throw a number out there without proper due diligence or understanding the community’s needs.

What’s the best thing the City Council has done for Charlotte in the last 4 years? And what’s the worst thing?

The Charlotte City Council approved a $3.3 billion budget with bipartisan support that enhances city services to address community needs without a tax increase – making critical investments in city employees, public safety, infrastructure, and affordable housing. We have an opportunity to restore trust in our public transportation by addressing safety, reliability, and efficiency concerns.

CATS has faced turmoil in the last year. What are, in your view, the most significant issues facing the system, and what role should the City Council play in solving problems?

We must restore trust in our public transportation by addressing safety, reliability, and efficiency concerns.

Is there an area where you disagree with your party on local or state issues? Why?

Yes, I disagree with certain members of our party regarding de-funding our police.

What separates you from your opponent(s)?

Experience, integrity, and commitment.

What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?

In 2018, I chaired the Environment Committee to help Charlotte become a global leader in sustainability with bipartisan adoption of the Strategic Energy Action Plan – the city’s first-ever framework to transition to a low carbon future. Within 24 hours of its passing, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited Charlotte to announce a $2.5 million grant from his foundation toward Charlotte’s efforts to fight climate change.
