What are, in your view, the most important issues facing Cornelius, and what would your approach be to handling them if elected?

The most important issues facing Cornelius are managed population growth and development in addition to mitigating traffic congestion. There is very little land available for development, so my approach is to follow the recent updated Land Use Plan to ensure appropriate approvals occur in targeted areas. For example, downtown needs more retail and commercial, and less populated areas need land preservation and expanded parks and greenways. The ultimate goal is to create connectivity across Cornelius and encourage economic development while maintaining a small town atmosphere.

Communities across Mecklenburg County have seen growth and development as well as a hot real estate market in recent years. How should Cornelius approach development and housing issues?

Similar to my answer above, Cornelius is heavily weighted on residential. We need to ensure appropriate infrastructure is planned/built before adding more development. We will encourage public/private partnerships to create workforce housing while preserving the value and integrity of current neighborhoods.

What separates you from your opponent(s)?

I’m impatient with the bureaucratic process and seek creative ways to expedite projects. I’m committed to truly listening to constituents and avoid the “tone deaf” attitude of many elected officials. Everyone who voices an opinion should be heard, and comprehensive explanations should be provided for those who seek insight. Citizens should hold their elected officials accountable and my voting record corresponds with my promises. I’m different because I have a full time job and my only interest in serving Cornelius is to represent a common sense and pragmatic approach that citizens truly deserve.

What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?

Increasing pay for fire and police and adding school resource offices for local elementary schools
