Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought):
I have been a Huntersville town commissioner for the last eight years.
Please list your highlights of civic involvement.
In addition to eight years on the Town Board, I served as the vice-chair of the Board of Adjustments, Vice-chair of the Planning Board, and participated on the Tree Save and Traffic Impact Committees, completed Huntersville 101, and completed Huntersville Citizen Police Academy. I am on the Board of Directors for Hugh Torrence House and North Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers. I was named Rotarian of the year 2022, and I have been a long time member of the Rotary Club of Lake Norman/Huntersville, which is responsible for the development of Veterans Park, basketball courts at the David B. Waymer Center, and the contribution of the clock and post in front of Discovery Place Kids. Before I was elected, I volunteered at the Huntersville Police Department. Personally, I donate time and resources to Cool Kids Clubhouse, Olde Huntersville Historic Society, Cornelius Youth Orchestra, Little Smiles, Season of Giving and St. Mark Catholic Church.
What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?
In my eight years on this Board, we have not raised taxes on our residents.
Traffic is an issue in Huntersville while a few critical road projects, such as the widening of N.C. 73, have been delayed by NCDOT. How would you tackle the town’s traffic problem?
My plan is to continue to use the Town’s Fund Balance to move up Huntersville’s transportation projects on the CRTPO (Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization) project list.
What are your ideas about how the town should recruit and retain more police officers specifically? And all town employees more broadly?
We need to complete a town-wide salary and benefit study to see if we are competitive with our salaries and benefits for all Town employees.
Huntersville has experienced rapid population growth over the last few decades with the approval of hundreds of new homes. Do you think the town should control growth in some way or keep expanding? Why?
As a Board, we must manage growth to ensure Huntersville remains a vibrant town that continues to grow while supporting our small businesses while keeping our small town charm.
Why should voters choose you over others who are in the race?
Voters can recognize that Dan Boone has the most experience among the candidates. Every day, I seek ways to improve our great town and to listen to the residents.
