In North Carolina, abortion is banned after 12 weeks. State politicians, including gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, have said they want to restrict abortion even further. Do you support the state’s current abortion restrictions, and what is your approach to legislating issues related to reproductive health?
As a former Congressional staff member, I am on record as supportive of the Hyde Amendment and exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. I voted against partial-birth abortions.
What would you say is the biggest issue facing your constituents, and what would you do to address it if elected?
Since first being sworn in, I continue to focus on economic security and the related issues of lower taxes, education, transportation, less crime, broadband access, infrastructure, etc. I will continue to support our policies that improved North Carolina’s business rankings.
While violent crime rates are decreasing nationwide they are growing in large North Carolina cities like Charlotte and Raleigh. How would you tackle the issue of rising violent crime rates and what do you believe is the legislature’s role when it comes to public safety?
Public safety and peace of mind are some of our top priorities. I support policies that help prevent dangerous and violent criminals from illegally entering and remaining in the United States.
While inflation has slowed, rising prices continue to concern North Carolina residents. How will you ensure your constituents are able to afford basic necessities like health care, food and housing?
I support continuing to cut taxes so people will have more money for necessities. As for health care, I did not support the Medicare cuts and tax increases that were included in Obamacare. I support cutting property taxes to help with housing affordability. I do not support the current unfair and unreasonable valuation process.
Is there any policy by your party that you disagree with?
Regardless of partisan politics, I strive to analyze each issue before making a decision about how to vote.
