Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought or held)
I ran for mayor 2023, held Town Commissioner office for four terms.
Please list your highlights of civic involvement
Four terms as Huntersville Commissioner; Planning Board & Ordinance Advisory Board vice chairs; co-president of Rotary Club LKN-Huntersville; Board of Hugh Torance House & NM Crimestoppers.
What are the most important issues facing Huntersville today, and how would you address them?
Unbridled growth, public safety, careless spending, and lack of transparency: Communicate w/residents better about Town business before an agenda, have substantive discussion at the dais. Talk about public business in the public & on the record. Not spend beyond our means, not use savings to balance a budget, not give hundreds of thousands annually to nonprofits. Stick to ordinances w/projects. Assess and fix police retention issues, prioritize SROs in schools.
How would you ensure Huntersville’s growth doesn’t outpace its infrastructure? The horse has left the barn. We can require projects to follow our ordinances; and shape development that respects our town’s infrastructure, preserves our character, and reflects the values of our community.
How would you work to improve traffic and road congestion as Huntersville continues to grow?
We need to use Fund Balance to move up NCDOT road projects on their priority list.
Do you support implementing a local sales tax to fund transit improvements? Why or why not?
No, the tax does not promise Huntersville a train. It DOES promise that the county would have the highest sales tax in the state. Also, the redline isn’t a light rail, but a heavy, diesel commuter train. We can do better.
Why should voters choose you over others who are in the race?
I still have it in me. There is much more to do and residents need someone to hear and consider them. Also, I have the experience and temperament to lead this great town.
