Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought or held) I have never campaigned for a public office before

Please list your highlights of civic involvement

The highlight of my civic involvement was serving as an enumerator for the 2020 U.S. Census. From August to September, I went door-to-door during a period of heightened public caution; many were limiting personal contact and were especially wary about sharing personal information. It was one of the most challenging roles I have ever held, but also one of the most vital, as ensuring an accurate count directly impacts representation, federal funding, and community planning.

What are the most important issues facing Kannapolis today, and how would you address them?

The truth is, I don’t have a single pressing issue or a utopian vision of Kannapolis with flying cars. I believe our current city council has done commendable work, and I trust they would continue to do so if re-elected. My concern is one of representation. Demographically, I don’t believe that the current board reflects the full spectrum of our community. My goal is to bring a fresh perspective and ensure that more voices, experiences, and viewpoints are present in the decision-making process.

Development, particularly downtown, has changed Kannapolis significantly over the previous several years. What’s your opinion on how growth and development is changing what things feel like living in Kannapolis? And what’s your vision of what Kannapolis should look and feel like in the next few years?

I’ve only lived in Kannapolis proper for three years, so the growing city of today is the only one I’ve known. While I’m not a city planning expert, I believe we can look to other cities in North Carolina that have undergone similar growth, learn from their successes and missteps, and adapt those strategies. Looking laterally can help us anticipate the issues of tomorrow and prepare today. This kind of iterative, continuous improvement is key to any thriving community.

Why should voters choose you over others who are in the race?

Voters should choose me because I offer a fresh perspective and represent a demographic not currently reflected on the council. I’m committed to listening first, collaborating openly, and making thoughtful, well-informed decisions that reflect the needs of the whole community.
