Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought or held)

I am running for re-election for my third term on the Mint Hill Board of Commissioners.

Please list your highlights of civic involvement

Having the opportunity to lend my voice to the needs and concerns of the residents of Mint Hill over the past four year has been a true highlight. Also, I have had the opportunity to hear from and listen to numerous residents. Although it is never possible to make everyone happy, I believe that everyone’s voice should be heard.

What are the most important issues facing Mint Hill, and how would you address them?

Infrastructure - Advocate to assess conditions and criticalities in order to prioritize funding and maintenance; pursue state grants and other partnerships to accelerate critical projects while controlling costs.

How should Mint Hill handle residential, commercial and industrial development? Should the town change any ordinances or rules to alter how development occurs? If so, what?

Growth is inevitable and Mint Hill is a thriving town. As it relates to changing any ordinances or rules, this is something that I would need to take under advisement.

What’s the best thing the Board of Commissioners has done for Mint Hill in the last 4 years? And what’s the worst thing?

The best things include: Constructing the new Founder’s Park; constructing a new fire station; expanding and upgrading Veteran’s Park; and purchasing the old Bain Academy for the construction of a new Town Community Center, which Mint Hill has never had.

The General Assembly has given Mecklenburg County permission to put a referendum on the ballot to raise the county’s sales tax to fund road, rail and bus projects. Will you vote in favor of the referendum? Why or why not?

Yes - Voters should have the right to determine if they are in favor of or against a sales tax to fund roads, rail and bus projects.

What separates you from your opponent(s)?

I am a collaborative leader who engages residents early and often, and one who fosters partnerships with nonprofits, schools, businesses and neighboring communities. I also champion projects that will benefit all residents.

What one professional or political accomplishment are you most proud of?

One of my proudest accomplishments is running for office during my first term as an underdog and winning a seat on the town board after months of hard work and broad outreach to all residents of Mint Hill. The victory underscored the value of listening to all voices and representing everyone in our town. That experience taught me the power of inclusive leadership, and I bring that approach to every decision I make for the town.
