Have you run for and/or held elected office before? list previous offices sought and/or held): Yes, I ran for Marvin council in 2023.
Marvin is known for its small town, rural feel. As Union County becomes more desirable and growth pressures increase, can the city’s character be preserved? Or is change inevitable?:
Growth is inevitable but slow thoughtful growth is what’s needed. Deviations from our ordinances to give developers what they want needs to stop. You can grow but still preserve Marvin’s character. It’s a balance.
In what ways can the village preserve Marvin’s rural feel despite pressures of growth as Union County increasingly becomes a desirable place to live?:
We need to update our land use and master plan to reflect the wants and values of current residents. We need to re-evaluate our current ordinances to make sure they are in keeping with the charm of Marvin. We also need to be very thoughtful about any new rezoning that comes to us. And ultimately, we need to listen to what taxpayers want for our village.
How do you plan to listen and make yourself accessible to residents about critical issues outside of public comment at village council meetings?:
These are my friends and neighbors in Marvin. I’m available to chat about anything on their minds regarding critical issues in Marvin whenever they need to speak to someone. That’s a big issue currently. Residents don’t feel heard by current government. I aim to change that. We work for them.... not the other way around.
Do you believe that the Village of Marvin should remain a largely residential community or explore opportunities for commercial development?:
Marvin is six square miles. We are a sleepy little community of families and most of us moved here to get away from big commercial development. We are surrounded by Charlotte, Waxhaw, and Indian Land who have great restaurants and shopping. I’m open to a small downtown Marvin by our town hall with a handful of locally owned businesses, but not tens of thousands of square feet of office space. Stormwater issues, traffic, etc must be addressed in this area as well before building anything.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
I am running with a wonderful slate of gentlemen who share my values and the values of many in our community. If we are elected, we will LISTEN to our neighbors and what they want for Marvin. I will look at every decision I make based on what I believe the people I represent want. Marvin United candidates are tired of taxation without consideration in local government and will work to change that.
