A magician who’s also a sex offender was working at a kids event, NC police say
A North Carolina magician is in jail for allegedly violating state sex offender statutes.
Kevin Pegram, 34, is a registered sex offender, accused of working as a magician where children were present, Guilford County officials said.
He was arrested Wednesday after officials learned Pegram was working the events as a freelance magician, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said. He also was working at a “kid’s night” event at a local restaurant, according to authorities, and had been using the alias “Angelo Colletie.”
Pegram has 21 prior sex offense convictions, according to the sheriff’s office, and is classified as a “recidivist” on the state Sex Offender Registry. The charges date back to at least 2004.
His convictions include multiple counts of second-degree rape, according to the state Sex Offender Registry.
In the latest case, Pegram faces multiple counts for being a sex offender at or near child premises, according to jail records. He is in Guilford County Jail on $1 million bond.
The investigation is ongoing and involves multiple jurisdictions, Guilford County officials said.
