NC woman complained about vomit on airplane — then daughter watched as she got arrested
A North Carolina woman landed in jail after telling a flight attendant about vomit near her airplane seat.
Rosetta Swinney was boarding a Frontier Airlines plane bound for Raleigh-Durham International Airport last weekend when her 14-year-old daughter noticed the area near their seat was dirty, she told ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.
“She says ‘this is vomit, mom,’” Swinney told the station. “So we went to look. It was on the bag, all over her shirt, her hands.”
A Facebook user identified as Nikki Nickole says she was on the flight, which originated at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.
In her post, she said the vomit got onto the teenager when she tried to put away her backpack.
“Her mom mentions this to the unnamed flight attendant (she refused to give her name) who then refused to clean up the vomit because ‘it’s not her job’ and instead handed the passenger a Clorox wipe to clean it up herself,” the Saturday morning Facebook post said, adding there was a row of empty seats on the plane.
In a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the airline says “the flight attendants apologized” and told Swinney and her daughter they could move to another part of the plane and “would be provided other seats if available.”
“The daughter was also offered cleaning products for herself and invited to use the lavatory to wash up,” the statement said, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
But Swinney “was unsatisfied with the response and became disruptive,” prompting flight attendants to decide she and her daughter should get off the plane, Frontier Airlines told Fox News.
Cops were called and arrested Swinney in front of her daughter, ABC11 reports.
“I felt humiliated,” Swinney said, per the station. “I felt more bad that my child had to see me be handcuffed and taken away from her.”
Swinney, of Durham, is charged with misdemeanor trespassing and is scheduled to appear in court in June, according to ABC11.
“Frontier refunded her the cost of the flight and she booked another flight with Delta Airlines,” Fox News reports.
