Fake cop pulls over driver, chases her when she tries to get away, NC sheriff says
Deputies in Western North Carolina are looking for a man who they say pretended to be a police officer and pulled a gun on a woman during a fake traffic stop.
The man was driving a silver Dodge Charger with flashing lights when he pulled over a driver in Haywood County, the sheriff’s office said.
When he pulled out his gun and told the woman to get out of the car, she realized he was an impostor and drove away, the sheriff’s office said. He ran back to his car and started to chase her, but the woman was able to get away.
Now deputies in Haywood County, west of Asheville, are looking for the suspect.
The driver told deputies the man was wearing a black button-up shirt, black cargo pants and black sneakers and had a “silver badge that looks just like yours,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
She described the man to deputies as 6-feet-4-inches and 250 pounds “with a muscular build.”
Deputies ask anyone who sees a silver Dodge Charger model 2012 to 2014 with dark tinted windows and strobe lights in the windshield to call 911.
“If you ever have concerns about a vehicle that is pulling you over, call 911,” the sheriff’s office said.
