Teens in stolen car crash into school buses, hurting students and driver, NC cops say
A stolen car rammed into two school buses, including one that was dropping off students, North Carolina officials say.
The crashes left four children with minor injuries, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools spokesman Brent Campbell told McClatchy News in an email. A bus driver was also hurt and went to a nearby hospital, officials say.
It was 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when an erratic driver was spotted outside Northwest Middle School, sending the building into lockdown for nearly a half hour early Wednesday, school officials said.
The car hit a bus with students on board before running head-on into another bus, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.
Teenagers in the stolen car ran away but were later tracked down with help from a K-9 team, the Winston-Salem Police Department told WXII.
Three teens, ages 13 to 16, were arrested on pending charges, WGHP and other news outlets report.
“It is my understanding that the damage to the buses was minimal,” Campbell wrote in his email.
