Police in North Carolina caught a Peeping Tom who was secretly recording a woman for nearly a year, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect? A teenager.

Cody Daniel Wells, 18, was arrested Jan. 15 on five counts of felony secret peeping, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday. Jail records show Wells posted his $50,000 bond and was released.

The incident occurred in western Iredell County, just north of Charlotte, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the release, “a female victim discovered an electronic video recording device hidden in her home” just before Christmas. Deputies told McClatchy News the camera was in her bedroom.

The woman, who is not identified, filed a report with the sheriff’s office on Dec. 20.

But the peeping started nearly a year before on Jan. 1, 2019, according to the release.

“Search warrants were obtained for the residence and items of evidence were seized,” the release states. “Several witnesses were also interviewed during the course of the investigation.”

Deputies did not say what evidence led them to Wells, and no further information was provided.
