More than a dozen shot at restaurants, bars, stores in Carolinas over weekend, cops say

More than a dozen people were shot, and two were killed, in three shootings at public places across the Carolinas this weekend, officials say.

The three shootings occurred at a restaurant, a bar and a mall, on Friday and Sunday police and local media outlets report.

Mac’s Lounge - Hartsville, South Carolina

Two people were killed and at least four others were injured in a shooting at the South Carolina bar Sunday, according to police and media outlets.

Police were called to Mac’s Lounge just before 2 a.m., a city spokesperson told WPDE.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene, Todd Hardee, Darlington County Coroner, told The New York Times.

Four others were taken to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries, according to a Facebook post from the Hartsville Police Department.

Two suspects involved in the shooting are in custody, the police department said Monday morning.

No information about the suspects, including their names, has been released, police say. The police department is working on serving more warrants on the two.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating the shooting, the Hartsville Police Department says.

Officials are continuing to investigate as of Monday morning, police say.

Police ask that anyone with information call 843-383-3011.

Hartsville is about 23 miles from Florence.

Thelma’s Restaurant - Salisbury, North Carolina

Six people were shot at the North Carolina restaurant early Sunday, police say.

The shooting happened just after midnight following a party at Thelma’s Restaurant, the Salisbury Police Department said in a Facebook post.

One person was seriously injured and flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, police said on Twitter.

Five other victims were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center, police say. Two additional people were treated for injuries from being trampled and one was treated for anxiety.

Police say they think the shooting happened inside the restaurant.

The victims’ names have not been released, and officials are still investigating.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is helping with the investigation, police say, and officials are asking for cellphone videos or photos from those who were at the party.

Salisbury is about 43 miles north of Charlotte.

Hanes Mall - Winston-Salem, North Carolina

A child was shot at a North Carolina mall on Friday, local media outlets report.

Isaac Banos Salazar, 18, fired multiple shots from a handgun at a younger boy, whose age has not been released, outside of a Forever 21 store at Hanes Mall at about 8:37 p.m., the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

Salazar shot the victim as he was leaving the store and walking to the parking lot, WGHP reported.

The victim then ran to the sidewalk outside of the J.C. Penney store, where police say they later found him, according to WGHP.

Police say they found Salazar in the mall parking lot near Dave & Busters and arrested him, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, carrying a concealed gun and discharging a firearm in city limits, WGHP reports.

No one else was hurt in the shooting, police say, and Forever 21’s windows were damaged, according to WXII.

Officials believe the two know each other and say there is no danger to the public, WXII reports.
