Prisoner ditches work release, on the lam in rural North Carolina, officials say

A prisoner went out for work release in Lenoir, North Carolina, Monday and never returned, the state Department of Public Safety said.

Police are searching Caldwell County for Kevin B. Adams, 47, after he was reported missing from his work release program, officials said.

Adams is a “minimum custody offender” at Caldwell Correctional Center. He was convicted of obtaining property under false pretenses in Polk County, DPS said. He was sentenced to serve three years and nine months in prison, officials said.

Adams began serving his sentence Aug. 9, 2019 and was scheduled for release on March 19, 2021, according to DPS.

Adams is 6-feet 4-inches tall, weighs about 200 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes, the department said. He is originally from Fairview, just east of Asheville, DPS said.

“If you see Adams, please call the Caldwell Correctional Center at 828-726-2509 or the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-754-1518,” DPS said.
