NASA rocket launch to International Space Station may be visible Sunday on East Coast
Those on the East Coast might be able to see a NASA rocket launch Sunday if the weather cooperates.
Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket is scheduled to launch from Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia to the International Space Station at 5:39 p.m. Sunday, NASA says.
The rocket will deliver 8,000 pounds of “science and research” and supplies to the crew at the International Space Station, NASA says.
This is Northrop Grumman’s 13th such mission, according to NASA. The company is NASA’s commercial partner.
It looks the weather will be good for the launch, NASA says. The only concerns are chances of cumulus clouds or thick clouds.
If the weather holds up, the launch may be visible in the mid-Atlantic and on the East Coast, NASA says.
Viewing information based on your location is available on the Wallops Mission Status Center’s website.
NASA also has a map that shows how many seconds after liftoff the launch will be visible in different areas.
Based on the map, the launch should be visible in North Carolina between 90 and 180 seconds after takeoff depending on the part of the state.
For those that are outside the areas where it will be visible, coverage will be available on NASA TV starting at 5 p.m.
