FedEx driver helping stranded motorist jumps 75 feet to avoid being hit, NC rescuers say
A FedEx driver helping a motorist mistakenly jumped off a bridge while trying to avoid being hit by traffic, North Carolina officials say.
The driver had serious injuries after landing on a riverbed 75 feet below the roadway early Wednesday, according to the Salisbury Fire Department and multiple news outlets.
Firefighters say the person fell from Interstate 85 North in Rowan County. The area is on the Yadkin River and roughly 45 miles northeast of Charlotte.
The driver had stopped to help another motorist and saw an oncoming truck, WBTV reports.
Thinking the side of the bridge was a median, the driver jumped to avoid getting hit by traffic, Salisbury Post reporter Shavonne Potts wrote on Twitter.
This is a developing story.
