Dad driving 100 mph crashes and flees, leaving son to die, North Carolina police say

A man in North Carolina was driving more than 100 mph under the influence before he crashed into several trees and ran off, police said.

His son died in the wreck, media outlets report. Now police are looking for Roderick R. White, 39, who fled before officers arrived at the crash in High Point, FOX8 reported.

He’s been charged with second-degree murder, felony serious injury by vehicle while driving impaired, felony hit-and-run, driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license after previously having his license revoked for impaired driving and speeding.

White was going 103 mph in a 45-mph zone before the crash occurred just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, according to WXII. His 2020 Chevy Blazer ran off the right side of the road when he lost control, the station said.

“The vehicle struck several trees and a fence before coming to a stop in the grass and catching fire,” WXII reported.

Six people were in the car at the time, none of whom were wearing seat belts, according to the Winston-Salem Journal. White’s 18-year-old son, Roderick White Jr., is the only one who died.

Three of the occupants, including his son, were thrown from the vehicle during the crash, the newspaper reported.

According to FOX8, the others’ injuries included facial cuts and a broken back.

White is still at large and anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers, WXII reported.
