Don’t all flock there at once, but coastal favorite Britt’s Donuts is reopening in NC
There’s a signal of hope on the North Carolina coast.
The long-awaited reopening of the iconic Britt’s Donut Shop on Carolina Beach is almost here, and perhaps when we need it most. It announced on its website it will be open for carryout this weekend from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until doughnuts run out on Sunday.
Each spring and summer, Britt’s attracts locals and visitors from near and far. But then it closes at the end of the season and leaves fans counting down the days until they can get their hands on the award-winning, homemade glazed doughnuts again.
The doughnuts have been named the best in North Carolina, the second-best in the nation and among the country’s 50 best, according to its website.
The shop has a simple menu: homemade glazed doughnuts, a few soft drink options and coffee and milk. But that seems to be all it’s needed to remain a fixture on the coast since 1939.
Word of the shop’s reopening spreads quickly and makes headlines each year.
This year, its original plans to reopen in early April were derailed by the coronavirus pandemic, WWAY reports, and for a while it was unclear when North Carolinians and their beloved doughnuts would meet again.
But now the time is finally here.
And though things may still look bleak and everyone may still be mostly stuck at home, at least now they can be quarantined with a dozen doughnuts that remind them of happier times.
