Here’s how a discarded insulin pump shut down this North Carolina courthouse, cops say

Ominous beeping coming from a trash bin shut down a North Carolina courthouse on Tuesday as law enforcement investigated a possible bomb threat, local media outlets report.

The “threat” was actually a discarded insulin pump.

Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the Forsyth County Courthouse around 1:37 p.m. after someone reported the “beeping” noise coming from a trash bin on the corner of North Liberty and Second Streets, WXII reported.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office evacuated the courthouse while traffic was rerouted, according to Fox 8.

Officers with the police department’s Hazardous Device Unit ultimately discovered the beeping sound belonged to “a diabetic insulin pod that had been thrown away,” the-Winston Salem Journal reported.

Insulin pods are small wireless devices that deliver insulin to the person wearing it, according to the American Diabetes Association.

The courthouse remained closed and will reopen Wednesday, the Journal reported.

Media outlets report anyone with information should call the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800.
