Time for a getaway? These NC destinations rank among most quaint places to stay in US
If you’re looking for a serene getaway, you may not have to travel far.
That’s because North Carolina is home to two of the nation’s most quaint places for an overnight stay, new rankings show.
Oasis Suites Hotel on the Outer Banks ranks No. 4 on a list of “small stays,” defined as “intimate hotels that make big impressions.”
Meanwhile in Western North Carolina, the Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast takes the No. 10 spot on a list of the best B&Bs, according to results Tripadvisor shared on Tuesday, May 10.
To create the list, the travel review website studied posts that U.S. and international travelers shared online throughout 2021. Tripadvisor said it considered “the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings specific to each subcategory.”
Those 11 subcategories focused on hotels that were rated the nation’s most kid-friendly, romantic and luxurious, among other qualities.
While no North Carolina destinations made it into the top 10 on those lists, the state’s hotels made their mark elsewhere. Of the two that received top recognition in the U.S. rankings, Oasis Suites Hotel earned a higher spot in its category.
Oasis Suites ranks No. 4 among boutique hotels, which might not be a surprise to guests who went on Tripadvisor to rave about the customer service and proximity to coastal attractions. The property is in Nags Head, a town on the Outer Banks barrier islands.
“Our guests take pleasure in waterfront views from all suites, a dock that extends the length of the hotel and a gazebo that is perfect for that morning cup of coffee, afternoon cocktail or just simply enjoying a magnificent sunset,” the business said on its website.
Also earning a nod from Tripadvisor was Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast, which landed at No. 10 on a list of “sweet, serene stays that mellowed out travelers.” The subcategory focused on B&Bs and inns that were cozy, a factor that stood out to some of the guests that left online reviews for the North Carolina destination.
Some Andon-Reid guests also said they couldn’t get enough of the hospitality and the setting. The B&B is in Waynesville, roughly 30 miles southwest of the tourist hotspot of Asheville.
“This turn-of-the-century home reflects all the beauty, grace, and charm in its traditional style of architecture,” the business said on its website. “Large windows, tall ceilings, extensive oak hardwood floors, and veranda porches that wrap around the house are but a few of the original attributes beckoning you to enjoy our beautiful mountain views.”
The rankings were released months after Tripadvisor named Asheville among the trendiest U.S. vacation spots, an honor that went to places seeing year-to-year growth in online ratings and reviews, McClatchy News reported in February.
