Lottery player doesn’t need to delay surgery any longer after big Powerball win in NC
When Ronda Isaac recently learned she won a Powerball prize, she immediately knew how she was going to spend her winnings.
“I finally get my new knees,” she told officials, according to a Jan. 11 North Carolina Education Lottery news release.
Isaac, 57, who works as a mortician in Lincolnton, North Carolina, said she’s needed a double knee replacement for years but has been putting it off.
“When you work standing up all the time, that’s pretty exciting,” she told officials.
Isaac bought her lucky $3 Quick Pick ticket using the lottery’s app for the Saturday, Jan. 7, drawing, officials said. Her numbers initially won her $50,000, but the 3X Power Play multiplier hit and earned her a total of $150,000.
“I was kind of in shock,” Isaac said. “I’ve never won any big prizes before.”
After tax withholdings, she took home $106,876. Any prize money she has left after surgery will go to her savings, she told officials.
Lincolnton is about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte.
