Two kids die after ‘heavy smoke and flames’ engulf North Carolina home, officials say
Two children died after “heavy smoke and flames” engulfed a North Carolina home, officials said.
An adult also was taken to a hospital in critical condition after crews raced to the burning house on Thursday, March 16, according to the city of Greensboro.
The destructive blaze rattled neighbors in the tight-knit Glenside Drive area, including those who told WGHP they remembered the children playing outside.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Tunya Crawford told the TV station. “Then when I saw how bad and charred the house was … wow.”
Officials said they haven’t found what started the deadly fire.
“The fire investigation is in the preliminary stages,” officials wrote in a March 16 news release.
The Greensboro Fire Department was called at about 11:30 a.m. to Glenside Drive, roughly 5 miles north of downtown Greensboro. Crews reported taking about six minutes to get to the house and take action.
At the scene, firefighters found two children and an adult before pulling them from the home. First responders determined that the kids were killed in the fire, officials told McClatchy News in an email.
“The adult patient was transported to Moses Cone Hospital and is currently in critical condition,” firefighters wrote.
