Charlotte woman earns big payday from scratch-off ticket with country star’s name
A Charlotte woman had an unexpected payday this week after playing a scratch-off game tied to a homegrown hero.
Jacinthia Little paid $5 for a “Living Lucky with Luke Combs” ticket at Total Convenience Market on U.S. Highway 70 Southwest in Hickory. On Monday, she showed up at NC Education Lottery headquarters to collect a $200,000 prize, which — after state and federal taxes were taken into account — amounted to a take-home of $142,501.
Combs, a 33-year-old Huntersville native, is currently one of the biggest stars in country music. He’s set to perform a pair of concerts at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. The Friday show was added after the Saturday concert quickly sold out.
“Living Lucky with Luke Combs” debuted in April with five $200,000 prizes. After Little’s big win, two $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed, lottery officials say. The odds of winning one of those top prizes are 1 in 750,000, officials say.
Players who did not win money playing the Luke Combs game still have a chance to be rewarded by the country music star.
Non-winning tickets can be entered at nclottery.com for a chance to win one of 10 trips to see Combs live in a private concert in Nashville. During that show, someone will win $500,000, lottery officials say.
