Co-workers with 15-year pact to share Powerball prize can finally honor promise in NC
Paula Dotson has been buying two tickets in every Powerball drawing for 15 years.
That’s how long its been since Dotson and two of her co-workers made a pact, the Mocksville woman told North Carolina Education Lottery officials in a July 10 news release.
“We decided 15 years ago that if we won a big prize we would all split it,” Dotson told officials. “We each buy two tickets in every drawing.”
Dotson recently bought a $3 Quick Pick ticket online, according to officials. She matched four white numbers and the red Powerball, and then doubled her prize to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier hit.
“When I saw it, I thought I was dreaming,” Dotson said, according to the release. “But I wasn’t.”
Now, the trio of co-workers will finally see their promise come into fruition, Dotson told officials.
“They thought I was joking,” she said in the release.
After taxes, Dotson took home $71,251, according to officials. She said she plans to use her portion of the prize to pay bills and do some repairs at home.
Mocksville is about 60 miles northeast of Charlotte.
