Head-on crash kills mom and her 4-year-old son in North Carolina, troopers say
A head-on crash killed a 4-year-old boy and his mother in North Carolina, officials told news outlets.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol said the child’s mom was driving late Wednesday, Sept. 20. At one point, she went over the center line of a Moore County road and hit another car, multiple news outlets reported.
The child died at the scene of the crash. State troopers said the boy wasn’t restrained properly and had been in a car seat that “was not properly installed,” according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.
The boy’s mother died at a hospital, reports said.
Troopers said two people from the other car were hurt in the crash. The passenger had minor injuries, while the driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to WRAL and WNCN.
The deadly wreck was reported on N.C. Highway 690 in Vass, roughly 60 miles southwest of Raleigh. Troopers said speed may have played a role in the crash, which was under investigation as of Sept. 21, according to news outlets.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ attempts for additional information on Sept. 21.
