Two Powerball players narrowly missed a $1.3 billion jackpot prize — but still scored life-changing wins in North Carolina.

The players bought tickets that matched all but one number picked in the drawing on Saturday, April 6. Though both tickets were worth $50,000, one of the players spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, making their prize triple to $150,000, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and in an email to McClatchy News.

The winning numbers: white balls 22-27-44-52-69, with red Powerball 9.

The $50,000 ticket came from the Quality Mart on Chapel Hill Road in Raleigh. Meanwhile, the $150,000 ticket was sold at the Bragtown Shell in Durham, lottery officials wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The tickets matched four of the white balls and the red Powerball to win big. But each ticket was one number from scoring the $1.3 billion jackpot prize, which is set to go to a lucky person in Oregon, drawing results show.

As of about 9:15 a.m. April 8, the North Carolina players hadn’t come forward to claim their prizes. The state gives winners about six months to cash in, according to lottery officials.

What to know about Powerball

To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
