Pup’s siblings were adopted — but not Dobby. ‘Shyest of the bunch’ still needs a home
A puppy’s seven siblings were adopted — but he still waits for a home of his own.
“He is the shyest of the bunch,” a North Carolina animal shelter told McClatchy News in an Aug. 12 email. “He is good with other dogs and all people and will (come) out of his shell after a little time in a new situation.”
The Yancey County Humane Society said Dobby is ready for a fresh start after bouncing between shelters. He and his siblings were at a Tennessee shelter that shut down and then landed at a North Carolina rescue that was too full.
Eventually, Dobby arrived at the humane society with the other pups: Drifter, Dreamer, Domino, Dazzle, Decker, Davina and Dawson. Since May, all of the siblings have been adopted but not Dobby, the shelter said.
“We don’t understand how a puppy as sweet as Dobby can still be in a shelter,” the animal organization wrote on Facebook. “Is it because he is timid? Is it because he’s a black dog? Who knows, but we do know he is very sweet, loves other dogs and will thrive in a home that gives him security, calmness and a fur sibling to play with!”
The puppy, who bears the same name as a “Harry Potter” character, is known for being “extremely smart” and friendly. A video shared online shows the roughly 5-month-old dog basking in attention.
“He loves other dogs, people, toys and even water,” the shelter wrote. “He’s just a pup so is still learning how to walk on leash.”
As of Aug. 13, the shelter’s website shows the mixed-breed puppy is still available for adoption in Burnsville, a roughly 35-mile drive northeast from the popular mountain town of Asheville. More details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at yanceyhumanesociety.org.
