Powerball player misses $258M jackpot but wins big in NC. Where was ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a $258 million jackpot — but still scored a big win in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number in the Sept. 30 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 9-11-30-43-69, with red Powerball 20.
So, where was the ticket sold? It came from the lottery’s regional office on West W.T. Harris Boulevard in Charlotte, the N.C. Education Lottery told McClatchy News in an email.
The player’s lucky ticket matched four of the white balls and the red ball to win big. It was one number from scoring the even larger jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $258 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
In North Carolina, Powerball players have about six months to cash in on their prizes. Lottery officials shared information about the $50,000 winner early Oct. 1, before the lucky ticket holder would have been able to come forward.
The windfall came after another $50,000 Powerball ticket was sold online in Hays, a community in Wilkes County, the lottery wrote Sept. 29 on X, formerly known as Twitter.
