Powerball player misses $172 million jackpot — but still wins big in North Carolina
A Powerball player just missed a $172 million jackpot — but still scored a prize worth celebrating in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Nov. 23 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 12-13-34-44-67, with red ball 8.
So, where was the lucky ticket sold? The player bought it at the Antioch Food Mart in Morganton, a roughly 75-mile drive northwest from Charlotte, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The player’s ticket matched four white balls and the red ball to score the windfall. The winner also was one number away from hitting the jackpot, which stood at an estimated $172 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to claim their prizes. As of early Nov. 25, the $50,000 winner hadn’t cashed in, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
The Powerball jackpot stands at an estimated value of $184 million ahead of the Monday, Nov. 25, drawing.
