Powerball player scores big win in North Carolina. Where was the ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a $71 million jackpot prize — but still scored a win in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Dec. 18 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 6-15-18-33-49, with red Powerball 7.
The winner’s lucky ticket matched four of the white balls and the red ball. It was sold at the Harris Teeter supermarket near SouthPark mall in Charlotte, the N.C. Education Lottery told McClatchy News in an email.
While the player is set to get richer, their ticket was one number from scoring an even larger prize. No one in the country hit the jackpot, which stood at an estimated $71 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
As of early Dec. 19, the $50,000 winner hadn’t come forward. In North Carolina, lucky ticket holders have about six months to claim their Powerball prizes, according to game rules.
