This ‘diva’ dog is ‘fully ready to take over your life.’ She’s up for adoption in NC
A shelter dog has a “larger-than-life presence” — and she needs a new home.
“If the name Big Rhonda doesn’t already have you picturing a legend in the making, let’s set the record straight,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote March 12 on Facebook. “She’s part powerhouse, part diva, and fully ready to take over your life (and your couch).”
Big Rhonda is up for adoption after she landed at the Watauga Humane Society in February.
“She was surrendered when her family realized they couldn’t keep up with her training while also raising young children,” Danielle Deschamps, communications coordinator for the shelter, told McClatchy News in an email. “Dogs thrive with structure, and unfortunately, she didn’t get the consistency she needed.”
Big Rhonda is a mixed-breed dog with a love for swimming. Though she takes time to warm up to strangers, she shows her affectionate side to people she trusts.
“When she first arrived, Big Rhonda was not impressed,” the shelter wrote. “New people? Suspicious. Kennels? Rude. Eye contact? Denied. But our team took one look at her and said, ‘Challenge accepted.’”
Shelter workers showered Big Rhonda with treats and playtime to help her become more comfortable. The 3-year-old pup is now known for her bold personality, according to the Facebook post and an online adoption profile.
“Big Rhonda gets her name from the iconic character in ‘That ‘70s Show,’ and with her larger-than-life presence, it just fits,” Deschamps wrote.
As she waits for a new owner, the shelter believes she would do best in a home without cats. She sometimes gets along with other dogs, but “she’s got standards.” So, it’s recommended that potential adopters introduce her to their canine companions.
As of March 14, the shelter’s website listed Big Rhonda among the animals in need of owners. Details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at wataugahumane.org.
The humane society is in the mountain town of Boone, a roughly 85-mile drive west from Winston-Salem.
